Grant Writing and Crowdfunding
March 13, Nalanda Campus, Room: 9248, 5-7pm
Looking for funding for your projects? Interested in grant writing or crowdfunding yet not sure how to begin? This two-hour introductory workshop will offer an overview of the grant process from start to finish. We will cover:
- What is the difference between seeking funding as an individual versus as a non-profit?
- How to research grant opportunities to find those that match your needs
- How to write compelling Letters of Interest (LOI’s) and grant proposals
- Reporting and what to do once you’ve received your funding
We will also look at how to pick the best crowdsourcing platform for your project and how to run a successful crowdfunding campaign. This workshop will provide you with information and tools to immediately start seeking funding for yourself or your organization.
Leslie Grasa has been fundraising for non-profits, and for her own projects, for over 20 years. As Director of Annual Events at Portland State University, she was responsible for raising nearly half a million dollars a year. Leslie received her MFA in Contemporary Performance from Naropa in 2016 and now serves as Naropa’s Grants and Donor Relations Officer.
Creating a Website for Your Small Business or Private Practice:
What You Need to Think About First

Part of putting your shingle out is representing yourself online. This workshop will explore making decisions about how to reach out to your clients online. Karen will talk about the following:
- Websites: Pros and Cons -Free or Paid? -DIY, Contract, or Platform?
- Digital (or Physical) Products: Do you want to sell books or audio files of meditations online? We will talk about why and how.
- Images: What are the different types of images? What size do you need for different usages?
- Design: Compelling content and how to appeal to the people that you want to serve.
Karen Spies received an MA in Buddhist Studies from Naropa in 1999. For the last 7 years, she has been supporting arts organizations, startups & small businesses with content, images and websites.
An Experiential, Embodied Exploration of Deciding if Private Practice is Right for You

Is Private Practice right for you? What questions come up for you?
Come to an experiential, embodied evening to explore:
- What you have to offer
- Your strengths, interests, passions, values in relation to having a private practice
- Whether you are ready to start a private practice
- Wanting to create your own path in life, but feeling inadequate to do that
- Working with doubts and fears about the future
- Struggling with survival vs. doing what you love
- Working with a lack of confidence, motivation, or ambivalence toward the goal of private practice
Elmar Dornberger, a 2001 graduate from Naropa University in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology, with an emphasis on Mindfulness-Based Transpersonal Counseling, will facilitate this evening. Elmar is in private practice in Boulder, His business is Hemisphere Consulting, a place to serve individuals, families and organizations. Elmar is a popular trainer and presenter, and a Theory U Instructor (MIT). His training includes Eriksonian Hypnosis with Diane R. McLaine, Somatic Experiencing with Peter Levine, Systemic Constellations with Bert Hellinger, and Neuro Linguistic Master Practitioner with Richard Bandler. Elmar is also trained in Organizational Constellations, Hypnotherapy, and Focusing.
Starting Your Business: The Nuts and Bolts

Attorney Theresa Pickner will walk you through the nuts and bolts of starting your own business, including legal entity selection, taxes, liability protection, registering your trade name, and more.
This workshop will save you time and stress by helping you determine which agencies to contact, along with the forms you will need, and provide the information necessary to make key decisions before completing your paperwork.
Theresa A. Pickner has a Master of Laws in Taxation (LLM) and has been practicing law for 25+ years. She is co-author of The Small Business Legal Tool Kit and Instructor of Start-up Essentials, Boulder Small Business Development Center.
