Who can register as a Non-Degree student?

  • Any individual who isn't already working toward a degree at Naropa can register to take For-Credit courses as a non-degree seeking student.
  • Registration can be done through the Non-Degree For-Credit Registration Form.
  • Non-Degree students can take up to 11 credits per semester. If you're interested in taking more than 11 credits, you will need to visit the Admissions tab to apply as a Visiting Student.

Can I take any Naropa class I am interested in?

The academic schools within Naropa have designated a certain number of courses that are open to the public. To find said classes, click on the printable Registration Schedules & Catalog link found on MyNaropa homepage. Search for the Courses Available to the Public for Academic Credit.

If you wish to take a course that is not on the list, you'll need to fill out and submit an Addendum to Non-Degree Registration Form. This requires both the instructor and School Director Permission before you fill out the Non-Degree For Credit Registration Form.

What if there is a pre-requisite listed for the class I am interested in?

  • If the class has a pre-requisite or special requirement, the student is responsible with the instructor so they are properly prepared for the course, plus informing the Registration Office of the approval.
  • Students who fail to confirm with the instructor prior to registering run the risk of being dropped from the class and asked to leave the course. Note: Faculty emails can be found under course information using the Course Search link on the MyNaropa homepage.

How will I know if I get into a class?

  • Non-degree For Credit students are added into classes on a space-available basis on the first day of classes.
  • You will be notified via email whether or not you've been registered.
  • If there are no seats available, you won't be registered and your tuition will be refunded if you've pre-payed.
  • You can track enrollment numbers by course by using the Course Search, found on the MyNaropa homepage.

How much does it cost to attend Naropa as a non-degree student?

  • Tuition for academic credit at Naropa is $995 per credit, plus any additional course fees.
  • Non-credit tuition is $250 per class.

Do CU students get a discount?

Current University of Boulder students interested in taking Tibetan or Sanskrit classes do receive a discount. There is a separate from for interested CU students, called the CU Language Courses Consortium Registration Form

What is Naropa's refund policy for non-degree students?

If you need to cancel a For Credit registration as a non-degree student, please email registration@naropa.edu by the end of the Add/Drop period for the semester. You may find the Add/Drop date by checking the Academic Calendar. A full refund will be given for requests received by the Add/Drop date.

Can I take the class For Credit now and change it to Non-Credit later?

No, once registered for the class you cannot opt to take the class for non-credit at a later date. IF you would like to chat about the differences, please email registration@naropa.edu for guidance.

Will I receive a bill and/or a receipt? 

  • For non-degree students, Billing statements are not issued. However, upon request, the Bursar will provide a receipt. You may reach out to the Bursar at tuition@naropa.edu
  • Note: early payment is highly encouraged, but it is the responsibility if the individual student to ensure they do not carry a balance. 

 

Can I take any Naropa class for Non-credit?

  • Any courses not listed on the Course Schedule for Non-Credit Courses are unavailable to take for non-credit.

How much does it cost to take a class for Non-Credit at Naropa?

  • Non-credit courses are $250 per class, $200 for Weekend Workshops, PLUS any related course fees.
  • All payments are due the Friday prior to the beginning of class.

Are Non-Credit courses graded? 

Non-Credit courses receive a grade of NC for "non-credit" so no, they are not graded. If you want to take a class that does receive a grade, then check out the For Credit classes.

Can I take the class Non-Credit now and upgrade it to For Credit later by paying the difference in tuition?

No. Basically, taking a class for Non-Credit means that you are not responsible for fulfilling the academic requirements for the class,  and you are not graded for your participation. As a result, you will not, nor will you be able to in the future, receive academic credit for your participation. It is not possible to "upgrade" a Non-Credit class in order to receive academic credit. 

How do I register for a Non-Credit course?

  • To register, you will fill out the online Public Registration Non-Credit Registration Form found on the Public Registration page of MyNaropa.
  • Spring courses are posted in November and Fall/Summer courses are posted in April.

How will I know if I got into a course?

  • After filling out the Public Registration Non-credit Form, Naropa's Registration Office will email you within a week to let you know if you have been added to a class as a non-credit student. 
  • If you are not registered due to lack of space in a course, your payment will be refunded. 

How can I register for the Mindfulness Instructor Trainings? 

  • You'll need to get instructor permission and fulfill certain requirements, THEN register online through the Public Registration forms.
  • The cost is $200 for non-credit students, plus the additional course fee.
  • Basic requirements for this course are at least 2-3 years pf consistent mediation practice, 2 weeks of intensive retreat before starting the program, and a letter of recommendation from a MI/mentor. How do I cancel my registration and receive a refund?

  • If you need to cancel your registration for a Non-Credit course, please email registration@naropa.edu by the end of the Add/Drop deadline for the semester. Please check the Academic Calendar for exact dates. 
  • Note: non-degree students cannot add or drop their classes without the assistance of the Registration Office. 
  • A full refund will be given for requests received by the Add/drop deadline, but no refund will be issued after that point.

Answering in the affirmative means that you have successfully completed any prerequisites the course may require.

  

Are you interested in signing up for Mindfulness Instructor Training?

NOTE: Any person wishing to take the Mindfulness Instructor Training must submit an application and be approved before registering for one of these training courses. Basic requirements for this course are at least 2-3 years of consistent practice, a 2 week intensive retreat before and after the program, and a Letter of Recommendation from their Instructor/Mentor. REL 709W has a prerequisite of REL609W, and both workshops have a material fee of $25.

Registrations received before your application has been approved will not be accepted.

You can monitor live registration for a particular course by viewing the course in our Course Search option found on the homepage of MyNaropa. If the course is listed as "Closed", there is no space and you will not be added.
 
You will be notified by email on the first day of classes if you have been added.
 
You have the option to pay for the class with a credit card now and be refunded if you are not added to the course. Or you may pay for the class after you have been added.
 
Public Course Fees are as Follows:

Non-Credit (3 credit) = $250

Non-Credit Weekend (1 credit) = $200

Non-Credit Language (4 credit) = $300

For-Credit = $995/credit

Naropa Refund Policy

If you need to cancel a non-credit registration as a non-degree seeking student, please email registration@naropa.edu by the end of the Add/Drop date for the semester.

***January 23, 2020 is the Add/Drop deadline for Spring 2020***

A full refund will be given for requests received by January 23rd. Refund for requests made after January 23rd will not be processed!

 

I have read the above statement regarding Naropa's Refund Policy. 

Additionally, I acknowledge that payments not received by the Add/Drop deadline will be dropped for non-payment and will cause me to lose my seat in the class.


I also understand that weekend workshops/courses have a drop date of the Thursday prior to the start of classes. Please reference the Public Registration for Non-Credit Schedule for exact dates.
